With only a few seniors on the roster, Pinelands is going to be one of the younger teams at the Shore in 2012.
Junior Joe Rodano had a solid sophomore campaign for the Wildcats as he recorded 19 wins. He, along with sophomore Corey Byrne at 106, are the lone varsity returners and are joined by a group of tough freshmen from 113-126 that hope to make an immediate positive impact.
Three lettermen return in the middleweights in senior Abdullah Abdelaziz and sophomores Cody Bonicky and James Mattina.
The upperweights will be anchored by senior Josh Yaede, who enters his fourth year as a starter for the Cats. John Campano is the team's heavyweight, and with 34 bouts at this weight as an underclassmen, the experience should pay off as he looks to take it to the next level.
With nine freshmen and sophomores expected to see significant varsity time, this is going to be a very young group. First year coach Gerald Caravella believes this is a very promising group and is excited to see what they can do. With so much youth, there may be some bumps in the road, but this group is looking forward to help rebuilding the program and expects to improve on last year's 3-15 mark.
Wrestler To Watch - (Jr) Joe Rodano
Rodano quietly had a nice sophomore year for Pinelands in 2011. He led the team and wins and was just three points away from qualifying for a trip to the Regions. He should easily surpass his win total from a year ago, and a trip to the Regions is very likely.
